Welcome Winter !
Winter is finally here, and with it, our first big snowstorm in years! The landscape has been transformed into a beautiful winter wonderland, complete with a fresh blanket of snow. Along with all of the beauty comes freezing temperatures. If you’re up for an outdoor adventure, snowshoeing is a fantastic way to enjoy the winter, as one of our guests will tell you! But personally, I’ll take a cozy spot by the fire with a cup of hot cocoa. It’s just too chilly outside for me!
If you're in the mood for an exciting indoor adventure, shopping is the perfect choice. Allow me to introduce you to some of my favorite hidden gems around town that you won’t want to miss:
Caspari on the Downtown Mall
This charming store is one of my absolute favorites. It’s so special that the only other location is in Paris, France - how amazing is that?! My husband and I stumbled upon the Paris shop last summer, and it was a delight. At Caspari, you’ll find beautifully designed paper goods, stationery, greeting cards, and stunning table settings for any occasion. It’s a wonderful place to find thoughtful gifts for the home and garden. Plus, their gift wrapping is just as gorgeous as the items themselves. I could spend hours browsing!
The Ivy Nursery
If you’re in the market for plants, The Ivy Nursery is the best place in town. But even if you're not shopping for greenery, it’s worth a stop. The owner has an impeccable eye for classic home and bath goods. Their selection of refined items is always a treat, so don’t miss it!
Pour La Maison
The owner of Pour La Maison has a passion for France and Italy, and it’s evident in the store’s carefully curated collection of fine tabletop pieces and beautiful gifts for the home. While the website doesn’t do it justice, the store is definitely worth a visit. Plus, their gift wrapping is so beautiful it’s almost like the wrapping is half the gift!
Poshabilities
Ok, enough about fancy home goods! Need to freshen up your wardrobe? Poshabilities is a must-visit. Voted “Charlottesville’s Finest 2024,” this shop offers stylish clothes, shoes, bags, gifts, and affordable jewelry. The best part? The friendly and helpful staff. I went in looking for a rehearsal dinner dress for my son’s garden wedding in the Cotswold's of England and left fully outfitted from head to toe!
Spring Street Boutique
Located in Barracks Road Shopping Center, Spring Street is an adorable boutique I can't resist. If you’re in the area, be sure to pop in. Their collection of comfy, stylish sweaters is a personal favorite, and they offer plenty of dresses, cute bags, and wraps. This store is a hit with UVA sorority girls, especially for their fancy parties!
As much as I love each of these local spots, I also welcome the slower pace that winter brings. It’s the perfect time to pause, recharge, and indulge in cozy moments. Whether it's unwinding with Hallmark movies or simply stepping away from the constant hustle and bustle to enjoy a much needed break.
